Summary
Collection depicts some ceremonies and gatherings attended by civil rights activist and Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters Ladies' Auxiliary organizer Rosina C. Tucker, during the early 1940s and from 1979 to 1983. Tucker's civil rights activities are not depicted; depictions of her union activities and personal life are very limited. The collection consists of a group portrait showing Tucker with the Asheville, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia delegates to a Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters convention, in New York City (1940); candid shots of Tucker attending church functions (1979 and 1981); Tucker, with District of Columbia Council member-at-large John L. Ray, attending an unidentified council gathering (1981); a view of Tucker being greeted by Washington, D.C. mayor Marion Berry and others at the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, Hubert H. Humphrey Civil Rights Award Dinner, where she was an honoree, in Washington, D.C. (1983); and group portraits and views of Tucker being honored at the Brotherhood of Railway, Airline, and Steamship Clerks, Freight Handlers, Express, and Station Employees (BRAC) convention held in Hollywood, Florida (1983). Tucker is also depicted opening birthday gifts (1945).
