Summary
Panel discussion 1: Video excerpt of Kevin McKenzie talking about what he believes an American Ballet Theatre (ABT) dancer should be, Aaron Scott discusses his dance background and training, works that stretch him and what it is like to dance varied roles including Twyla Tharp and Alexei Ratmansky. Panel discussion 2: Stella Abrera talks about her dance background and the number of years she has performed with ABT including various roles she has performed, the different preparation needed to perform Tharp's In the Upper Room vs. Lilac Fairy, what it is like performing classical roles immediately after a modern role, how the back is used differently for modern and classical works, and how performing classical works have less room for error and are more nerve-racking. Panel discussion 3: Franko DeVita talks about the training and varied curriculum at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. Panel discussions 4, 5 & 6: Susan Jones discusses her dance background and number of years with ABT, what she looks for in a dancer, and how the school has changed her need to teach and merge various dance backgrounds for the corp work because the dancers now have the same training, and John Meehan thanks the panelist, dancers, and audience.
