Summary
The Contemporary Legend Theater of Taiwan, a troupe formed in 1984 by several young Chinese opera aficionados, is the subject of this public program. Artistic director Wu Hsing-kuo, producer Lin Hsiu-wei, and actress Wei Hai-ming discuss the troupe's approach to staging Chinese opera, which is described as an effort to maintain traditional elements while also introducing new devices. Each speaker demonstrates vocal technique and stage moves. A brief film clip of the troupe's work is shown. The panelists also field questions from the audience.
