- Summary
- Hawthorne complains about Tappan's treatment of him and his family, especially in regard to ownership of the apples from the apple trees on the rented property.
- Note
- 2 leaves (first 4 p. are on 1 leaf folded in half).
- Caroline Tappan owned the "Little Red Shanty" cottage at Lenox, Mass., where the Hawthornes lived and where Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote Tanglewood Tales.
- With George Parsons Lathrop envelope (name printed with return address of city and state) in which is written in blue pen the letter's description. The poet and editor George Parsons Lathrop was married in London, September 11, 1871, to Rose Hawthorne, daughter of Nathaniel Hawthorne.
