- Summary
- Double-page spread from the Danish periodical Illustreret tidende, depicting the interior of the theatre now called the Gamle Scene or Old Stage of the Kongelige Teater or Royal Theatre of Copenhagen. The motto "Ei blot til lyst" ("Not just for pleasure") is visible on the proscenium. A performance is in progress, attended by a well-dressed audience.

- The dates 1748 and 1874 at the lower left and right corners of the print refer respectively to the opening of the first Royal Theatre on Kongens Nytorv in 1748, and the inauguration of the present building, designed by the architects Vilhelm Dahlerup and Ove Pedersen, on Oct. 15, 1874.
- The Swedish-born artist and scene designer Frederik August Ahlgrenson, also known as Fritz Ahlgrensson, worked in Stockholm and Copenhagen. He was an employee of the Kongelige Teater in 1874.
