Description

Summary
  1. "For four days in January 1941, in occupied Paris, Pablo Picasso put down the brush and took up the pen. The play he wrote, Desire caught by the tail, was inspired by the poor living conditions in Paris at the time. It reflects the hardships of those war years; with their lack of food and heating and their clandestine meetings. Among the characters in the play are Big Foot and his friends Round Piece and Onion, the Tart and her cousin, and the two Anxieties, the fat one and the skinny one. This rarely seen Surrealist play was first presented in 1944 as a reading with a cast that included many of Picasso's friends: leading literary and theatrical figures such as Simone de Beauvoir, Jane-Paul Sartre, Raymond Queneau, Albert Camus and Michael Leiris." -- note in house program.
