- Summary
- Mary Wigman is considered to be one of the founders of the modern dance movement. Her school in Dresden, Germany trained several dancers including Pola Nirenska, Harald Kreutzberg, and Hanya Holm. Nirenska toured with the Wigman troupe in the 1932-1933 tour of the United States and Germany. At the start of World War II, Niresnska, who was Jewish, emigrated to England. The Mary Wigman letters to Pola Nirenska document their relationship through correspondence written between the years of 1934 to 1936 and 1946 to 1958. A program from their 1932-1933 tour features Nirenska as well as a press clipping about the resurgence of German dance after the war.
