Description
  • 139 drawings : watercolor, ink, crayon, graphite, color; 36 x 27 cm. or smaller.
  • 82 drawings : ink, graphite, crayon, b&w ;
Summary
Action drawings of Isadora Duncan, a pioneer of American modern dance. Most depict her in the simple Greek draperies she favored in contrast to the elaborate costumes worn by theatrical dancers of her time; in a few drawings she is nude or nearly so. The drawings are chiefly made in portrait orientation, but six are in landscape orientation, depicting her in prone positions. The drawings generally portray her in full-length view, though a few are cropped at the top. The backgrounds are blank, with no attempt to delineate the stage space through which she moves.
