- Summary
- Cher comes across as an eloquent and clever person. She and Mewborn discuss many topics: her album with Casablanca Records, the Sonny and Cher duo in the early 60s and the overnight success in London, the music she would like to make, Cher's striking clothes and her influence on fashion, the difficulty of maintaining stardom, her background and family, her marriages and children, how she chooses songs to perform, lack of good parts for women, her wish to work in the movies and stop working in TV which she calls hypocritical, how Sonny and she made spontaneous shows without the help of the writers because of the rapport they had, the nature of interviews and her emotions about giving them, her failed attempts to buy an apartment in NYC in such a building as the Dakota because of her celebrity status (Mewborn mentions the file on Cher at NYPL for the Performing Arts full of gossip clips), various famous people such as the photographer Avedon and Vogue editor Diana Vreeland, etc. Cher is very outspoken about her anti drug feelings and causes she is concerned about such as child abuse, and she and Mewborn dwell on individual cases. 35 minutes is a recording session of "Happy was the day we met" interrupted by snatches of conversation.
