Biography (note)
  1. Opened in 1801 by Emanuel Schikaneder, the Theater an der Wien has been a venue for drama, opera, music, and ballet. Ludwig van Beethoven served as its director of music and resident composer for a time, and several of his works, including his opera Fidelio, were premiered there.
