Summary
  1. This collection contains the official journal of the 9th Regiment New York Volunteers, known as the "Hawkins Zouaves," Colonel Rush C. Hawkins commanding, from the time of their embarkation at New York City, June 5, 1861, until April 11, 1863. The journal includes a record of service of the various companies of the regiment in Virginia and North Carolina, including actions at Hatteras Inlet, Roanoke Island, Camden, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Suffolk. Transcript accompanied by the certified copy of General Orders, No. 27, signed by John E. Shepard.
