Materials concerning Horton's childhood include a high school report card (1922?), a photocopy of School No. 47 commencement program listing Lester Horton among the graduates (January, 1922), letters from school and hospital administrators with information about Horton's birth and education, and notes regarding Horton's father's employment history.
3. Also included is Warren's graduate school paper Lester Horton Dance Theater: the physical plant (December, 1967); four unsigned sketches, whose original wrapping is labeled "Horton sketches -- Year not known"; and a holograph score by Anita Metz Grossman entitled Barrelhouse, music for a dance of protest (1947). Annotation on the score reads, "First performance: Philharmonic Auditorium, Los Angeles. December, 1947. Lester Horton Dancers."
