Summary

Natalie Richman Graniela (dancer) discusses seeing her first performance of Erick Hawkins while attending the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in 1964, the performance included Early floating and Cantilever with dancer, Nancy Meehan; being drawn to the Hawkins movement style and the performances; deciding she wanted to dance with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company; calling three schools when she arrived in NYC: Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham and Erick Hawkins; speaking to Hawkins on the phone when she called his studio to inquire about classes; Hawkins asking her to watch company class where she again saw Nancy Meehan; staying at the Barbizon Hotel; her first experience seeing the Hawkins studio; and attending the 1965(?) Hawkins summer workshop and taking Lucia Dlugoszewski's composition class.
