- On September 25, 1973, the musicians of the New York Philharmonic went on strike for 9 weeks, during which time they toured Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands, and held a concert on October 29, 1973 to benefit the Musicians' Emergency Fund. The strike ended on November 28, 1973.
