Summary
Randy Howard (dancer) discusses seeing his first Erick Hawkins dance concert; taking a workshop and classes at the Alwin Nikolais studio in the early 1970's; studying anatomy; taking Beverly Brown's 7:30 class at the Hawkins' studio; his problems with fitting in due to his appearance and attitude; Hawkins' insecurity about his work and how Lucia bolstered his confidence; how Hawkins created choreographic works; how and why Howard started videotaping rehearsals and performances; leaving the Hawkins company numerous times because of family, what was going on at the studio and problems with Lucia; Howard's experience as artistic director after Hawkins passed away; what he learned from former dancers in the company; and the importance of being in your body while dancing and in everyday life.
