Cathy Ward (dancer) discusses first meeting Erick Hawkins; taking a workshop at American Univ. in 1972; moving to New York when she turned 21 years old; her experience dancing with Hawkins; Hawkin's kinesthetic awareness, imagination and use of images; her first performance with the company; creating work in the studio; how she learned roles that other dancers performed including Beverly Brown teaching her Black lake and Hawkins changing the role for Ward; the costumes for Summer cloud people; how she thinks the Hawkins legacy should continue; touring with the company and performing lecture demonstrations; and why she left the company and returned five yrs. later.
