Summary
Richard Rodgers and and Oscar Hammerstein both give a speech at the end of the annual Herald Tribune Book and Author luncheon, hosted by literary editor Irita Van Doren. Rodgers talks about the difference between music and book lovers, middle-of-the-road politics, how his wife Dorothy was once called a Fascist and a Communist, and how to work in musical theater. Hammerstein talks about politics, encouraging people people to read plays before and after they watch a show, his wishes about being an actor, his experience with his play "Music in the air", and how people should respect other one's beliefs. Both Rodgers and Hammerstein discuss and plug their new Broadway musical "Allegro".
