Summary
A compilation of vocal and dance pieces from a variety of Meredith Monk's works, including "Offering" from Volcano Songs (1994), "Dawn" and "Fields/Clouds" from Book of Days (1985), "Quarry Weave no. 2" from Quarry (1976), "Tower" from Vessel: An Opera Epic (1971), "Celebration Dance" from The Politics of Quiet (1996), "Other Worlds Revealed" and "Earth Seen From Above" from ATLAS: an opera in 3 parts (1991), and "Processional" from American Archeology no. 1: Roosevelt Island (1994). "Kah-La-Le-Imo", adapted and arranged by Tiyé Giraud, was used with permission. Readings from religious texts and prayers of various religions are interspersed with the performances. Monk gives direction during and between songs and dance performances. At the end of the video, about 48 minutes in, there is an interview with Meredith Monk and an unnamed interviewer in which she discusses A Celebration Service and her plans for future projects.
