  1. "When I wrote the Academy of youth, I promised that I would write a little book for children, and the life of the New Tom Thumb is the result of my promise."--Preface, p. [3]. In the first ed. of John Harris's books for youth, Marjorie Moon attributes the authorship to William Mackenzie. In the revised 1992 ed., Moon says that this attribution is incorrect and the author is unknown.
