- Summary
- Tracks 1-11: Bill Bailiff, a grinder from Toledo, Ohio, a lover of jazz, blues and ragtime music of 20-40s responds to a letter from EB sent on July 9, 1970. He introduces himself, talks about his love for music and musicians, discusses the importance of spreading music around, and includes some of his favorite music works taped from commercial 78s. Among them are such performers as Cozy Cole with a song "If I could be with you" from a V-Disc All Stars; Fats Waller with a song "Gladyse"; George Welting and others. Works on tracks 12-18 are performed vocally and on the piano by an unidentified Bob Long from Los Angeles, who calls himself "The ragtime kid", and who is sending this recording and a Happy Birthday note to EB for the latter's birdthday.
