Reminiscences by Danish dancer and choreographer Nini Theilade, intercut with rehearsal and performance footage of her dance work The storm. She discusses growing up in Java, Copenhagen, and Paris; her debut as dancer and choreographer; touring Europe and the United States as a solo recitalist; her difficult relationship with her mother; working for theater director Max Reinhardt in Berlin; staging her ballet Psyche for the Royal Danish Ballet; filming Reinhardt's A midsummer night's dream in Hollywood; dancing in Leonide Massine's choreography for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo; marriage and retirement from performing; staging Psyche and The blade of grass for Danish television; teaching in her ballet academies. Among the dance excerpts are her solo The lotus, filmed in 1936; her scene as the lead fairy in Reinhardt's A midsummer night's dream; scenes from Massine's ballet inspired by St. Francis of Assisi [Nobilissima visione]; excerpts from the television productions of Psyche and The blade of grass.
