- Summary
- This program focuses on the long career of dancer, choreographer Frederic Franklin. Live performances of ballet excerpts re-staged by Franklin (one restaged by Kevin McKenzie) and film clips of an interview with Frederic Franklin (possibly from the documentary Ballets Russes) and dance performance of Red Poppies are interspersed with panel discussions featuring Franklin and Virginia Johnson. The panelists discuss Franklin's early experiences dancing with Josephine Baker in Paris, and with the Markova-Dolin Ballet in London; his years with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and professional relationships with Léonide Massine, Alexandra Danilova, and Alicia Markova; and creating Giselle for the Dance Theatre of Harlem.
