  • "A suite of twenty direct-pigment prints made from the Hamlet series of collage paintings, printed with archival inks on Somerset Velvet paper and sleeved in Mingei paper folios printed with excerpts from The tragic history of Hamlet. Pigmented flax and abaca two-sided chemises, watermarked abaca sheets of 'Ophelia' and 'HAMLET,' and individually pulp painted, and stenciled cotton and abaca sheets used for the title page, were created at Dieu Donné Papermill in New York City in 2007. A honeysuckle motif from the Second Quarto frontispiece inspired a skull and flower drawing used for the cover image and as the header on each of the folio text blocs"--Colophon.
  • "John Balkwill of the Lumino Press, Santa Barbara, printed all the text letterpress, editioned by hand on a Vandercook UNI cylinder press, using Centaur typeface. He built the clamshell box with a red leather spine stamped in gold. The cover of the clamshell box uses Cave Paper from Minneapolis, onto which the skull motif is debossed. The entire play is also included as though it were an actor's script. This letterpress text is handsewn with an amate paper cover"--Colophon.
  • "The series of prints that form the body of this project began as collage paintings on paper. My images are an attempt to conjure an emotional response to Shakespeare's play, Hamlet ... I made paintings--palimpsests of sorts--by covering over previously printed text, and then scraping back into the surface, leaving one to puzzle out meaning from fragments"--Artist's note.
  • First portfolio, of two-sided red and gray handmade paper, contains the 20 prints, each enclosed in a bifolium with the relevant passage from the play printed on first page, and 2 loose sheets (illustrated title page and "Artist's note"). "Artist's note" is watermarked with an image depicting Ophelia. Each print inscribed on verso in pencil "Folio one[-twenty]" with identification of the scene.
  • Second portfolio, of black paper, contains booklet with text of the play ([19] p., stitched into amate paper covers) and 2 loose sheets, one with watermark "HAMLET" (inserted in flap in front cover) and one with colophon. The booklet includes a color visual index of the prints. "Source for the text is the the [sic] Globe edition of the works of William Shakespeare, electronically available through the University of Virginia Library"--Colophon.
