- "Michael Field" was the pseudonym of Katherine Harris Bradley (1846-1914) and her niece, ward, and lover, Edith Emma Cooper (1862-1913). The poets' identities became known soon after they revealed the truth to their friend Robert Browning, but they contined publishing under the pseudonym nonetheless, composing over forty volumes. The shared single name was intended to signify their essential unity.
