- Summary
- In the first part of the broadcast Carlos Fuentes Macías, a Mexican writer, novelist and essayist, speaks on Mexican history based on the earliest descriptions written by the conquistador Bernal Díaz del Castillo, and mutual influence of two cultures, American and Mexican. In the second part of the broadcast David Rieff, an American nonfiction writer and editor, and Alfred Mac Adam, a professor of Latin American literature at Barnard College-Columbia University and a translator of Latin American fiction, discuss their experience working with Carlos Fuentes as translator and an editor. They talk about difficulties in translation of Fuentes's rich, colorful lexical style into modern English.
