- Summary
- The first part of the broadcast consitst of a lecture given by Ariel Dorfman, a Chilean-American novelist, poet playwright, and essayist, discusses how the disappearance and presumed deaths of individuals in Pinochet's Chile and other countries of Latin America serves to oppress and control the remaining population. He stresses the importance of keeping their memory alive so that the next generation would not lose connection with its heritage. Throughout the lecture, Dorfman reads excerpts from his poetry as commentary. In the second part of the broadcast Dr. Randall Krakauer and Dr. Douglas Johnson talk about rehabilitation programs for victims of torture. At the end of the broadcast journalist and writer Tina Rosenberg and clinical psychologist Dr. Yael Danieli discuss the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder in torture victims.
