- Summary
- The Ezra Ayers Carman genealogical research papers consist of genealogical notes, copies of family records, clippings, photographs, and correspondence of Ezra Ayers Carman and, to a lesser extent, his son Louis Dale Carman, in the course of their research on the history and genealogy of the Ayers and Carman families. Materials on the Ayers family include an 1816 ancestral chart, a photograph of William Ayers, and a bound volume of E.A. Carman's notes on the Ayers family, including a register of births, deaths, and marriages, copied from the Woodbridge, N.J. Town Book by William A. Whitehead, with transcripts and extracts. Carman maintained files on the descendants of Benjamin Carman and John Carman as well as files on others sharing that surname. The files include his research correspondence, a business card of B. T. Carman, family trees and charts, genealogical notes, an 1881 photograph of E.A. Carman's relative and frequent correspondent, Charles H. Carman, and copies of family wills, such as those of Richard Carman, 1769, Samuel Carman, 1747, and Hugh Dunn, 1826. There is also a copy of a 1776 document: Damages by the British, and a 1916 paper by Dr. Bryon S. Palmer entitled Carman Family Ancestry, Previous to Their Arrival in America.
