Kevin Ward, artistic director of Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, hosts this educational program, which looks at African and African-American influences in contemporary dance. Excerpts from works in the DCDC repertory are interspersed with discussion of the pieces presented and the careers and contributions of choreographers Asadata Dafora, Talley Beatty, Mary Hinkson and Donald McKayle. The program ends with questions from the audience; the dancers speak about their careers, work experience and feelings about dance.
