Description
1 videocassette (132 min.) : si. (with a musical score), b&w.; 1/2 in.
Summary
College (1927), b&w, 66 min.: In this hilarious send-up of college life, Keaton stars as Ronald, an earnest academic, who attends Clayton College in pursuit of higher learning but becomes embroiled in various athletic entanglements to win his beloved, Mary. A series of vignettes sees Ronald trying his hand as a basketball player, soda jerk, coxswain, track star, all with disastrous results. Learning that his rival has locked Mary in the dormitory, the slightly-built hero finally proves his physical mettle by performing all manner of athletic feats - racing over hedges, overtaking speeding cars, leaping chasms, and pole vaulting - to rescue her. The electric house (1922), b&w, 23 min.: Awarded the wrong diploma by a correspondence college, Buster is qualified as an electrical engineer and commissioned to equip an electric house. To the home's happy owners, he demonstrates its escalators, dinner-table railway, washing-up machines and automatic swimming pool. When a prospective buyer comes to inspect the modern domain, Buster's nefarious rival sabotages the appliances. The washing-up machine breaks the dises, the escalator hurls the visitors into the swimming pool and the service railway delivers kittens instead of dinner. The swimming pool empties of water swallowing the beleaguered protagonist down the plug hole and out through the sewer system to the sea. Hard luck (1921), b&w, 22 min.: In this short, named as Keaton's favorite, our hapless hero attempts suicide unsuccessfully via train, rope and poison. At a swank country club, he encounters difficulties as a fisherman, horseman and swimmer. In the end, Buster attempts a high dive, misses the pool, crashes through a cement sidewalk and emerges, years later, transformed into a Chinese man. The blacksmith (1922), b&w, 21 min.: Harkening back to the films done with Fatty Arbuckle, this short stars Keaton as a resourceful blacksmith's assistant. He fries eggs on the forge, fits a horse with new shoes in the manner of a shoe salesman and rigs a motor-car spring system under the saddle of a sore woman rider. He also saves a pretty young woman when her horse bolts.
