- In the area of world events, President Von Hindenburg inspects a massive display of troops in front of the Reichstag to celebrate Germany's 10th year as a republic in a year which also saw the withdrawal of British and Belgian occupation forces from German soil. In Rome, Mussolini reviews the metropolitan police. Ten thousand German colonists in Russia return home to start a new life. The Nationalist Government in China is criticized by storekeepers for lack of protection when rich merchants are attacked and businesses raided by Chinese rebels. President Hoover recognizes the achievements of Madame Curie and Charles Lindbergh. On the local scene, New York Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt participates in State Fair festivities. Urbain Ledous, "Mr. Zero," feeds a turkey dinner to hundreds of homeless men. 1928 Democratic Presidential candidate Al Smith goes South on vacation. Various technical achievements are applauded including the completion of the Cooper River Bridge, 5th highest span in the world, the world flight of the Graf Zeppelin, Fritz von Opel's plane fired by rockets and an array of battle equipment introduced by branches of the U.S. armed forces. Scull wins the Lipton Cup, Yale crushes Army in college football, and the Philadelphia Athletics beat the Chicago Cubs in the opening game of the World Series. Pop culture items spotlight a baby pageant, a marathon by Parisian waiters, the world's biggest rabbit farm, and egg-rolling at the White House. The tape concludes with the momentous Stock Market Crash on October 29th, 1929, signalling the beginning of the Great Depression.
