- Summary
- A dramatized interpretation of the classic Blues, with an all-Black cast and starring Bessie Smith in her only film appearance as the wronged wife. W.C. Handy was music director as well as co-author of the script, and the music is played by James P. Johnson's Orchestra consisting mostly of the members of the Fletcher Henderson Band with the W.C. Handy choir. The film was made in Astoria, Long Island, during late June 1929.
