Summary
  1. In this 13-part series produced for America's Bicentennial, 150 years of American history unfold through the chronicle of a family that helped design, preserve and expand the nation. The early episodes focus on the first of the dynasty, John Adams. Against the background of the colonial and revolutionary period, Adams is transformed from country lawyer to diplomat and second president of the United States. The Adams saga follows the turmoil that culminated in the Civil War, through Reconstruction, and finally, into the era of the robber barons. This dramatic historical series is based on The Adams papers, 300,000 pages of letters, diaries and journals written by the Adamses themselves.
