Summary
In this Romeo and Juliet musical, the setting is New York City's West Side where the Jets are rivals of the Puerto Rican Sharks. In the midst of gang conflicts, springs the love of Maria, sister of Bernardo, leader of the Sharks and Tony, ex-member of the Jets. Their love, beset by the tensions of the rival groups, meets a tragic end. The film is noteworthy for its on-location footage, musical score and choreography developed by Jerome Robbins.
