This cinematic "tour-de-force," part mystery part homage to the movies, concerns two detectives who become embroiled in a complicated case which leads them to an uncompleted silent film. The persistent gumshoes, one of whom has a penchant for hard-boiled eggs, are hired to find Bellflower, the silent film actress who has been kidnapped by M. Pathé & Co. Her elusive trail has the investigators searching through a labyrinth of riddles and bizzare clues where mystery and romance, reality and illusion mesh in the fantastical world of the silent screen. Their pursuit takes the duo to such exotic landmarks as the General Jintan Tower, the Flower Star Wheel, the Moon Island Shrine and finally, the Electric House where the Pathé Co. is showing "The Eternal mystery."
