- Summary
- In this Disney animated version of the Arturian legend, Wart, the foster son of Sir Ector comes upon Merlin's cottage in the middle of a wood. Deciding to take charge of the boy's education, the wizard takes up residence in Sir Ector's castle where he teaches Wart both conventional knowledge as well as the secret lives of the animals. It is announced that a tournament is to be held in London. Sir Ector and his son Sir Kay will attend with Wart acting as Kay's squire. As they set out from their lodging to join the joust, Kay realizes that he has forgotten his sword and sends Wart to retrieve it. Wart sees a sword protruding from an anvil and extracts it to give to Kay, not knowing that only the man who is the rightful King of all England can pull the sword from its anchor. When Sir Ector discovers the source of the sword, Wart is proclaimed king. Merlin reveals that his true name is Arthur and he is destined to be the leader of the round table. Songs include: "A Most befuddling thing," "Blue oak tree," "Mad Madame Mim," "That's what makes the world go round," "Higitus, figitus," "The Legend of the sword in the stone."
