Description
3 film reels (191 min.) : si. col. (tinted); 16 mm.
Summary
Griffith attempted to universalize the theme of intolerance by intercutting four stories from different periods. "The Modern Story" (Mother and the Law), set in the early twentieth century, depicts the struggle between capitalism and labor. "The Judean Story" (The Nazarene) recounts the conflict between Christ and the Pharisees. "The Medieval Story" concerns the massacre of Protestants on St. Bartholomew's Day, 1572. "The Babylon Story" (The Fall of Babylon) depicts the betrayal of Prince Belshazzar to the Persians. The film advanced the techniques of set design, of large casts, and camera mobility. This copy comes from an original nitrate-tinted print. (Circulates)
