Summary
Program 305: Looking out by Victoria Boutis is featured as this program's "Junior novel." Though pleased to be part of the in crowd at school, Ellen is troubled by her parents' social concerns, expressed in their support of the condemned Rosenbergs, and must make a choice about what really matters in life. Victor Boutis is the guest in "Author interview." A recommended book of "Mystery and suspense" is Joan Lowery Nixon's Caught in the act. A Letter to Amy by Ezra Jack Keats is a charming "Book to read to your little brothers and sisters." The title tackled in "Book bind" is Diana Wynne Jones' The Lives of Christopher Chant, the story of a young magician in training to become Chrestomanci, head controller of magic in the world. The program's selected "Junior novel" is The Ever hopeful Hannalee. Teens respond to the question, "Did you ever read a book that changed you?" as part of the "Ideas from high school" segment. Tempers flare on General Library when Yolanda chastises Tim for ending her friendship with Paula. Trent/Tony impresses Gina with stories of Paris and his father's enormous wealth. Yolanda finds Trent's wallet and discovers his true identity. Program 306: The selected "Junior novel" is A Sudden silence by Eve Bunting in which Jesse Harman searches for the hit and run driver who killed his brother Bry. The subject of "Author interview" is Walter Dean Myers, writer of Fallen angels, about teens who fought in Vietnam. "Fallen angels" is discussed in "Book bind." A recommended "Adventure" novel is Lloyd Alexander's The Drackenberg adventure. In 1873, 17-year-old Vesper Holly travels to an obscure European Duchy where archenemy Dr. Helvitius is pursuing a lost art treasure. A good "Book to read to your little brothers and sisters" is Frank and Ernest by Alexandra Day. "Superstition" is the category which best describes The Pike River phantom by Betty Ren Wright, the story of 13-year-old Rachel and her friend Charlie who became linked with the mad ghost of a fierce old lady. High school students are asked, "Where is your favorite place to read?" in the "Ideas from high school" segment. Excitement brews in General Library when Yolanda unmasks Trent's charade. Trent, really Tony Gonzalez, has fabricated his jet-set persona by using library reference materials. Gina is angry when she learns the truth.
