- Description
- 1 film reel (33 min.) : sd., col.; 16 mm.
- Summary
- This elliptical, disjointed sketch of Amy Johnson, the British aviatrix who made a solo flight in 1930 from England to Australia, explores popular ideas of the heroine. Although Johnson was a symbol of feminine potential, she soon succumbed to the pressures of fame engineered by the British media. The film raises formal and social questions and is inventive in its narrative strategies. Set in a feminist context, the film combines contemporary interviews, newsreels, superimposed titles, and various voice and visual portrayals of Johnson.
