Summary
Alcohol abuse has become a greater problem than ever in the United States, its impact more widespread than any drug. Half the auto deaths in the U.S. are caused by drunk drivers and the problem is spurring new efforts to treat alcoholism and its causes. 48 Hours spends two days and two nights with alcoholics, families of alcoholics, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) and support groups. Highlighted is a look inside an alcoholic rehabilitation center where one family confronts a father and a son's drinking.
