Bethsabee de Rothschild speaks with Don McDonagh about starting a dance company in Israel with the help of Martha Graham; her initial interest in yoga and movement, not dancing; being connected to Graham as a person; impressions of dancing with Graham; Graham's choreographic process, and the fact that it was always done in solitude; Letter to the world at Bennington, and the premiere in N.Y.; various Graham dances, giving opinions of each dance; the dancers' loyalty to Graham, and the time and effort put into each performance; her belief that Night journey is Graham's best choreographic work through its meaningful movement, and the existence of a pure line from beginning to the end; reactions to Graham's dances while on tour in Europe; Graham's interest in philosophy and oriental art; Graham's voracious reading habits.
