Summary
Felix Galimir, an Austrian violinist in the Palestine and NBC orchestras, first played for Toscanini in 1936 and 1937 when Toscanini came to Palestine with the idea of creating a Jewish symphony orchestra because of Hitler's persecution in Europe. He recalls the nervous anticipation the musicians had felt before the arrival of the maestro, their vigorous practices and preparation, their thrill at having him conduct them, and finally, the successful series of concerts under his guidance in both years. Later, Galimir immigrated to the US and joined the NBC orchestra at the time Toscanini took charge of it and played with it for the next seventeen years. Galimir characterizes maestro as a "terrific talent who brought to the podium psychology, honesty, integrity and a very clean interpretation of music."
