- Summary
- This musical program was presented in conjunction with the exhibition Foto: modernity in Central Europe 1918-1945. The musical selections are accompanied by projected images from the show and interspersed with commentary from Sarah Rothenberg, concert curator, and Matthew Witkovsky, curator of the photography exhibition, who discuss how the musical program was inspired by the photographs; the central roles of jazz and photography in twentieth century modernism; the careers of the composers and how they were affected by political events; the cultural coherence of Central Europe, and the contrasting expressions of cosmopolitanism and rural traditions.
