- Summary
- James Lipton hosts an evening of discussion with actors Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson. Wallach and Jackson speak about their respective childhoods in Red Hook, Brooklyn and Manhattan, and their involvement with the Actors Studio, where they studied drama with Sanford Meisner. Wallach discusses his Broadway debut in the Tennessee Williams play The rose tattoo (1951); and his roles in such films as Baby doll (1956), Magnificent seven (1960), The misfits (1961), in which he starred with Marilyn Monroe, and as Tuco in The good, the bad, and the ugly (1966), an Italian-made Western which made him famous in Italy and elsewhere. Jackson speaks of her role as Kathy in the motion picture Lovers and other strangers (1970). The couple discuss their experience working and living together; acting technique in comedy versus drama; and their work in the 1964 Broadway comedy Luv, directed by Mike Nichols. A brief question and answer session with Wallach and Jackson and the Actors Studio master's degree students concludes the program.
