Summary
  1. James Lipton hosts an evening of discussion with film and stage actor Faye Dunaway. Dunaway discusses her family and her upbringing in northern Florida; her drama studies at Boston University; joining the founding company of the Lincoln Center Repertory Theatre under Robert Whitehead and Elia Kazan in 1962, and her Broadway debut in A man for all seasons the same year. Dunaway also speaks about her acting technique, and her roles in such films as Bonnie and Clyde (1967), directed by Arthur Penn; The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), in which she starred with Steve McQueen; Little big man (1970), also directed by Penn; Chinatown (1974), playing opposite Jack Nicholson; Three days of the condor (1975); Network (1976), directed by Sidney Lumet; and Mommie dearest (1981), in which she portrayed legendary film actress Joan Crawford. The discussion is illlustrated with scenes from some of these works. Dunaway also speaks about her need to act on the stage following film work; nudity and vulnerability in her film acting; and her experience as a woman working in the world of motion pictures. A brief question and answer session with Dunaway and the Actors Studio master's degree students concludes the program.
