Description
1 videocassette (VHS) (65 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
James Lipton hosts an evening of discussion with Academy Award winning actor Holly Hunter. Hunter speaks about her upbring on a farm in Conyers, Georgia; her early love of the piano; acting in high school productions; majoring in acting at Carnegie Mellon University and her studies there with tap dancer Paul Draper; moving to New York City; and her close association with playwright Beth Henley, in whose Off-Broadway plays The wake of Jamey Foster and The Miss Firecracker contest she starred. Hunter recounts her experience performing in the movie version of The Miss Firecracker contest, after having done the play. Hunter speaks about gravitating toward unusual women characters, and her desire to portray characters who are far from her immediate "landscape." Hunter also examines her roles in the television productions Roe vs. Wade, and The positively true adventures of the alleged Texas cheerleader-murdering Mom, and in the motion pictures Raising Arizona, Broadcast news, Steven Spielberg's film Always, and as the mute piano player Ada McGrath in The piano, written and directed by Jane Campion. A brief question and answer session with Hunter and the Actors Studio master's degree students concludes the program.
