Summary
  1. James Lipton hosts an evening of discussion with comedian, actor, film producer, writer and film director Jerry Lewis. The evening features clips from Lewis' various movies and includes a routine by Lewis as a nine-year-old child. Lewis discusses his upbringing in New Jersey in a Jewish family, the son of Rae Lewis and entertainer Danny Lewis, his entry into stand-up comedy, and rise to prominence in the 1940s with Dean Martin as part of the comedy team Martin and Lewis; his views on comedy and his comic persona; his career in motion pictures, as an actor who was Hollywood's highest paid star for his role in the 1959 movie Cinderfella, and as the director and producer of such hit movies as The bellboy, The errand boy, and The nutty professor, and his hosting, since 1950, of the annual charity fund-raising telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. A brief question and answer session with Lewis and the Actors Studio master's degree students concludes the program.
