Peter Martins speaks with Kyra Lynn Kaptzan about Twyla Tharp's choreographing of a ca. 3 min. long work for the television program Omnibus on CBS [Columbia Broadcasting System, inc.] to be performed by Martins, Lynn Swann, and Tharp; choreographing a work on ice for John Curry; Martins' feelings about his choreography, including Calcium light night and Sonate di Scarlatti; his working method; the making of a Danish documentary about Martins [Peter Martins: a dancer, produced by The Film Company, Copenhagen, and Danmarks Radio; directed by Jørgen Leth]; outline of his career, including the circumstances of his joining the New York City Ballet; his initial difficulty adjusting to life as a dancer in the U.S.; reasons he still occasionally performs in classic ballets such as Swan lake and Giselle; working with Misha [Mikhail Baryshnikov] on special productions, e.g., at the Hollywood Bowl; works in progress and recent works, including Eight easy pieces.
