Summary

1. Playwright David Ives and director Jason McConnell Buzas talk with co-hosts Susan Haskins and Michael Riedel about their Off-Broadway production All in the timing: six one-act comedies, and their ongoing collaboration. The two speak about Ives' writing, which utilizes humor, musicality and a creative use of time. Ives elaborates on the origins of his ideas for such short pieces as Philip Glass buys a loaf of bread, Variations on the death of Trotsky and Unamunda the universal language. The two discuss their working process, whose success they feel results from their willingness to work together to refine the plays for live performance, as well as a mutual imperative not to bore the audience.
