- Biography
- Actor Ralph Morgan (real name, Raphael Kuhner Wupperman; 1883-1956) played supporting roles in many Hollywood films and was one of the founders and charter members of the Screen Actors Guild. Born in New York City, Morgan earned a law degree from Columbia University, before becoming an actor on stage and in film. In a long film career, Morgan became known for playing the "surprise" killer in several murder mystery films. In addition to acting, Morgan focused on labor relations for actors, serving as president of the Screen Actors Guild (1933 and 1938-1940). Morgan belonged to a family of actors. His brother was the more well known character actor, Frank Morgan. He was married to Grace Arnold, a stage actress; their daughter, Claudia Morgan also became an actress.Claudia Morgan (real name, Claudeigh Louise Wupperman; 1911-1974) was an actress best known for her work on the Adventures of the Thin Man radio series. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Claudia made her stage debut as a teenager and appeared in nearly two dozen plays on Broadway between 1929 and 1952. She was most active on stage and in radio, making only a few film appearances. One of her films, however, was a lead role in That's My Story (1937), with her father, Ralph Morgan. During the 1940s, Claudia Morgan became nationally known to radio audiences for her portrayal of Nora Charles in the Adventures of the Thin Man radio program (1940-1949).
