Summary

1. Playwright, librettist, and screenwriter Arthur Laurents speaks about his life in the theater and motion pictures with Theater talk co-hosts Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins. Laurents discusses his early career writing for radio; his work in Hollywood on such movies as The way we were, directed by Sydney Pollack; his involvement in left wing politics; his writing of the the libretto for the musical Gypsy, in which he focused his story on the mother character; and his work with choreographer Jerome Robbins -- whom he came to dislike -- on such shows as West Side story and Gypsy.
